This trip is a must, a once of a lifetime adventure across the Northern part of Vietnam. It starts with a tribute to nature in the mystic and beautiful Ba Be national park. We then journey to the Dong Van Geopark, a rocky plateau with impressive mountain sceneries few kilometers off the Chinese border. We end in a beautiful valley made of rice fields and hamlets of wooden houses on stilts. Enjoy fulltime ethnic immersion and homestay experiences almost all along; “almost” because we spend two nights in an ancient rich H’mong farm renovated, enchanting.

Hotel in Ha Giang Day 2: Ha Giang – Yen Minh
After breakfast in the stilt house, we will have a short visit of the Ha Giang museum before we continue our drive towards Dong Van stone plateau. We stop en route for a short walk through the hill of pine and visit a Red Dao of village. Lunch en route. We arrive Yen Minh town around late afternoon. Check into a local guesthouse for overnight.

8:00 we continue our road trip to Dong Van karst plateau. A stop will be made en route for visiting a Hmong village in Lung Cam, and the residence of the Vuong family, still called “Palace of Hmong King”.After lunch and short rest, we continue our drive towards Meo Vac town. We make some stops en route for admiring the scenery and taking some photos of Ma Pi Leng pass. Arriving in Meo Vac, we check into a local hotel and take a rest. Then if time permit, we will have the opportunity to visit a village of Hmong near the town.Dinner and overnight in Meo Vac.

After breakfast, departure to Bao Lac. Arrive in Bao Lac, visit local market and visit Khuoi Khon village-mostly inhabited by Black Lo Lo ethnic group who well known with their bronze drum and their attire. Lo Lo women weave fabrics with which they make skirts. Lo Lo men, when searching for their future wives, often evaluate carefully their girlfriends through their ability to make clothing. Lo Lo people depend mainly on maize and rice as forms of income generation. Dinner and overnight on the local house.

After breakfast, say goodbyes to the villagers and drive to Ba Be, a small mountain road, via Ban Na and Na Phac. En route stops to visit some vestiges of the colonial era, including a castle built by the French. Arrive in Ba Be, check in homestay in Bac Ngoi Village and free time for exploring the village and the landscape around the lake.

After having breakfast, take a boat on Ba Ba Lake, the lush forest clinging to the surrounding mountains is your backdrop as you explore the lake. During the boat trip you will visit the Puong Grotto and the Dau Dang waterfall. The scenery surrounding the lake is simply breathtaking, with the huge, old forest domina -ting in this landscape. During the walk in the afternoon, you will be able to observe the local communities going about their daily life, which includes buffalos and their owners tending the fields. By late afternoon you will return to your local Tay ethnic minority house, where you enjoy dinner and stay overnight tonight.

Reviewed On: Jul 16, 2016Eventhoughthese places has developed for years, Ha giang is not much touristy as the other places. We had a great time in this trip. Visited Yen Minh and then took a long way to Ba be lake changing my experiences from place to place. I learnt a lot through the story told by tourguide and his sharing on the way. Most of the time spending in the car and watching the stunning road was enjoyable as well. Those shouldn’t be missed if we visit Ha Giang where there is always mix of local and the ethnic created their own specific culture.

It was adventurous time spending driving up and down through passes and hill. I love Dong Van Karst and Ba Be national Park where I could enjoyed the taste of nature. The reasons are varied… the most important of them is the lack of an expert tour guide with all the knowledge about the local areas, roots, languages etc. We were quite doubtful when we first opted for Ha Giang Trekking Company, but thankfully our trekking trip was a great success. Thanks to the tour guide, he was brilliant all the way. We would love to recommend trekking sapa company… great going…
